Scary

Sarah came home for a visit a couple of weeks ago. It went well for the most part. She is in a much better frame of mind than when we sent her away to Red Rock Canyon School. It looks like she is very close to graduating from the school. If she does, she will have completed a very tough program for any kid, let alone one with emotional problems.

One of Sarah’s biggest problems before she went away was her obsession with the neighbor boy. She was trying to get pregnant with his baby. She still has a problem with it. She did whatever she could to be around him as much as possible while she was here.

Austin and Alissa were hard for her to deal with also. They can be very overwhelming. They are kind of like two Jack Russell Terriers. Sarah was too at that age. She is 16 now and doesn’t want too much to do with them, but they wanted her undivided attention. We had to take A&A aside and chill them out.

I am also a big issue she hasn’t begun to deal with yet. She has expressed concerns with her therapist about not getting along with me, but she won’t engage in any kind of conversation with me about her concerns.

So I think she will be back home sometime in the next 8 weeks. They have a combination of meds that seem to be working OK. She HAS worked hard to complete the program at Red Rock. But she doesn’t have a good start on dealing with the same problems that she had when she left home.

damn. I hate that they don't help them solve the problem they enter with. It doesn't seem to matter that they finish 'the program' if it doesn't solve the damn problem they had in the first place!!! I'm so sorry to hear this about Sarah. I hope she can overcome it. DQ has officially been removed from our family. She tries to contact us, but I refuse to respond. She was doing so well and threw it all away to shoot up heroin on weekends. I can't do it anymore after 14 years. I really am praying for your fam sweetie. But advice? Don't wait 14 years to finally say 'no more'. It nearly killed me... literally.

hopefully will post soon! watching tom now on PBS : ) thought of you.

Are you afraid of a relapse? If that happens, what can be done?

I'll be thinking about you guys. Hang in there.

Sue- What does it mean when the groups you listen to are now featured on PBS? :)

Kristi- Hopefully she is better equipped to deal with issues at home. It is just discouraging to see that after almost 2 years she hasn't done much in that department. Yeah, I'm worried about a relapse. If it does, it probably means a group home for her.

Elizabeth- Thanks, I'll be thinking of you when I'm eating a carrot stick instead of french fries. :)

Hopefully a better frame of mind will enable her to deal with her problems better. But I'm sure her return will be a big adjustment for everyone. Hang in there...

I'm sorry to hear this about Sarah. The fact that you did anything when she started down this dark path says a lot. My younger step bro is almost 17 and lives with his mom in Washington. He's been having some trouble lately and it's like his mom and step dad have blinders on and us here in CA feel really helpless.

On a lighter note, what? You can't recognize a good looking guy when you see one?? :P I refer to my husband, Geoff, as Triforce for a few reasons. When we first met he still lived in Boston so we talked online a lot to keep in touch and Triforce was the screen name he used. He's a total gamer, works in the video game industry, and the Triforce is a fictional relic from his favorite games, The Legend of Vegas series. Pretty much, I married a big dork and call him an equally dorky name. :)

That's the Legend of Zelda series, not Vegas. What a weird typo.

Miranda- I'm not a big gamer but you did have me scratching my head with The Legend Of Vegas series.

I know I am late to the party but is there no option to do some counseling about her issues with you before she comes home?

Can't even wrap my head around what you guys have gone (and probably will go) thru. I'll be praying for you and yours during the transition.
