Teacher's Pet

It was a proud day for the Malationman. His boy Ernie graduated from beginner dog training class at Petsmart. If there were a class valedictorian it would have been Ernie. While all the other “students” took their final exam on a leash, the instructor surprised the entire class by making Ernie try it without one. No problem. We should get the intermediate class for free!

I recommend the classes to all my friends with dogs. It was about $100 for 8 weeks of instruction. If you are good and practice like you are supposed to, you will see results. You could really tell which pet owners took the class seriously and got their money’s worth.

Ernie will sit, lie down, come when called, and stay. Also, he walks on a leash without trying to dislocate my shoulder. It may not seem like much, but having these commands mastered is nice.

You are very lucky. I fear it is too late for Mojo. Merlin got schooled early and he's fine, but Mojo doesn't seem to understand that if he doesn't pull when on a leash then he won't choke. Poor guy. I try.

Yeah for Ernie! I love a well-trained dog that can follow simple commands like "sit" and "stay" and "don't eat your own poop".

You guys look fab-u-los-o in your graduation pic!

I can vouch for the Petsmart classes too. Our Tobi (Min Pin) did really well too. We're still working on the leash part, though. She just HATES the leash. She doesn't pull against it, though, she gets it out in front of her, there grabs it with her front legs and stand on her back legs. I think I'd rather she pulled!!! lol But she's got all the basic stuff mastered! Good for Ernie! And you're right, if you work with them outside of "class", you'll see results!

I have Sarge leash trained and house trained now but really that is about it. His momma needs obedience classes.

I didn't take my dog to be trained, but we trained him enough at home so that he doesn't piss and crap all over the house. Congrats on your new valedictorian.

If Ernie had glasses on he'd really look smart. but kudos to you, Tom, for sticking it him. My dog(s) were very well trained out in public. At home it's a different story; kinda like the kids. Within reason you can behave how you want at home but you'd better not embarass me in public.
